Help in your language or format

Free interpreters, BSL support and information in other languages and formats — just tell us what you need.

Interpreters at your appointment

If English is not your first language, tell reception which language you need when booking. We can arrange an NHS Lothian interpreter for your appointment at no cost to you — in person or by telephone.

Please do not rely on family to interpret

A professional interpreter protects your privacy and makes sure clinical information is accurate. Please avoid relying on children or relatives to interpret medical details.

British Sign Language and deaf support

If you use British Sign Language, tell reception when booking and we will arrange BSL interpretation. You can also contact any Scottish public service, including the practice, using the free contactSCOTLAND-BSL video relay service.

Health information in your language

NHS inform publishes trusted health information in many languages, including easy-to-read formats: NHS inform translations.

Large print, Easy Read and audio

We can provide letters and information in large print, Easy Read, audio or another accessible format. Phone 01968 675 576 or ask at reception, and we will agree the most suitable way to help. You can also ask for this to be noted on your record so future letters arrive in the right format.

If you cannot use the phone

  • Use your Patient Services account for repeat prescriptions and appointment requests.
  • Visit reception in person — our opening hours are on the contact page.
  • If you are deaf or have a speech difficulty, you can use the free Relay UK service (dial 18001 before our number) or contactSCOTLAND-BSL above.

Change how this website looks

At the bottom of every page, just above the copyright line, you will find display options: you can make the text larger or switch to high contrast. Your choice is remembered on your device.

Listen instead of reading

Next to the display options you will also find a Listen to this page button. It reads the page aloud using the speech built into your phone or computer, with pause and stop controls, and nothing you do is sent anywhere or recorded. It is a helpful extra rather than a replacement for a full screen reader — see our accessibility statement for screen reader support.
