Physiotherapy

Assessment and support for muscle, bone, joint and mobility problems.

An Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner at the practice can assess many muscle, bone and joint problems without a GP appointment first. NHS Lothian also provides outpatient and community physiotherapy services across Midlothian.

Best first route

Contact Eastfield and briefly describe the problem. Reception can direct you to the Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner or another clinician where appropriate. For an issue with an existing Midlothian physiotherapy appointment or referral, use the current contact details published by NHS Lothian.

Self-referral information

NHS Lothian publishes self-referral information for several physiotherapy services. Eligibility and forms vary by council area and by the type of problem. The Edinburgh forms on the linked page are not automatically suitable for Midlothian patients, so check the eligibility statement before submitting anything.

Urgent symptoms

Routine physiotherapy is not suitable for a serious injury, rapidly worsening weakness, new loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin or back passage, severe unexplained illness, or another urgent concern. Contact the practice, call 111 when closed, or call 999 for a life-threatening emergency.
