How busy are our phone lines?
Typical call volumes through the day, so you can pick a quieter moment for routine calls.
Our lines are busiest from 8am to 9am, especially on Mondays and Tuesdays. For routine calls, early afternoon is usually the quietest time.
Based on average calls per hour to the practice during June 2026, working days only. A guide, not a queue: urgent calls should always be made straight away.
Before you call
A few seconds of preparation helps us answer you faster and keeps the lines free for people who need urgent help.
- Have your date of birth and postcode ready so we can find your record quickly.
- Repeat prescription? Order online through Patient Services rather than by phone. Orders are ready to collect from 3pm on the third working day after you order.
- Test results? Call after 10am and press option 2, once enough time has passed for a clinician to review them.
- General enquiry? Please call after 10am, so the early lines stay free for urgent care.
- Same-day appointment? Call from 8:30am and, where possible, before 10am. If the problem becomes urgent, call immediately while our lines are open.
- Reception may ask a brief description of your problem so they can direct you to the right person. This is treated in confidence.
- Might the pharmacy, an optometrist or NHS 24 on 111 help sooner? Try our quick guide to who to contact.

Common questions
When should I phone for an appointment?
Phone between 8:30am and 5:30pm on working days. For a same-day appointment, phone before 10am where possible.
When should I phone for results or a general enquiry?
Phone between 10am and 5pm so the early lines remain available for appointments and urgent problems.
What are the 8am–8:30am and 5:30pm–6pm lines for?
These periods are reserved for serious medical problems that cannot wait and calls from health professionals. Routine booking and enquiries are not available then.
Can I email the practice about a medical problem?
Do not use email for urgent medical problems. Phone the practice, call NHS 24 on 111 when we are closed, or call 999 in an emergency.
Can I send a photograph by email?
Only send a photograph if a clinician or member of the practice team has asked you to. Never use email for an urgent or emergency problem.
Why are telephone calls recorded?
Calls may be recorded for patient and staff safety, training, quality monitoring, complaints and establishing what was said. See our privacy notice.
